Karina: Dear friends! We are very glad to see you here today. It is a special day because we are going to discover the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, learn about its sights, famous people, symbols and traditions.
Dasha: We wish you to be very bright, active and erudite. Let me introduce our judges.

Karina: Now it's time for our teams to introduce themselves and their home tasks. You are welcome!
Dasha: First of all we will see the 9th forms, they are going to present England.
Karina: Now let’s meet 10th forms, they are going to tell us about Northern Ireland.
Dasha: So it’s time to see 11th forms with their presentation about England.
Dasha: It was great, I think everyone liked these presentations.

Dasha: Because our next task is connected with music, exactly with British music. So teams you should listen to songs very attentively and guess who is the singer or the name of the group and the title of the song.

Karina: Now you should Guess the Englishmen who have worldwide fame.
Dasha: We will read some information about them you should tell their names.

She was born in 1891. She was a worldwide writer. She wrote 75 detective stories. Her main character was an old woman named Miss Maple. She died in 1976.
Agatha Christy

He is a creator of the English historical novel. He was born in 1771 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He published his finest novels “Ivanhoe”, “Rob Roy” and others. He died in 1832. There is his memorial in the Poet’s corner in Westminster Abbey.
Walter Scott

He was born in 1564 in Stratford-on-Avon, where he received a classical education. He was one of the world’s greatest writers. When he was twenty-one he went to London. There he became an actor and began to write plays. He wrote many beautiful sonnets and plays for the famous Globe Theatre. Later he was one of the owners of the Globe Theatre. He died in 1616.

This man is one of the greatest scientists in the world. He was born in 1809. He applied the theory of evolution to the human race. He died in 1882 and buried in Westminster Abbey.

He was born in 1859. He did much for the English detective literature. But he was an outstanding writer, because he wrote some scientific stories. His famous hero was Sherlock Holmes.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

He was an English novelist, a short-story writer and a poet. He was born in Bombay, India, in 1865 where his father worked at that time. When he was six years old, his parents sent the boy to England. At twenty-one he published his first book of poems. A year later he wrote a book of short stories about India. He is best known for his works for children, especially “The Jungle Book”. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1907.

She was a very nice woman. And she was a real English princess, too. That was the woman whom everybody loved. She had two sons and her husband was the Prince Charles. Her death was passed by strange events.

He was one of the most important scientists who ever lived. He was born on 25 December, 1642, in Woolsthorpe. He spent most of his life in Cambridge. He became a world-famous physicist, mathematician, and natural philosopher. He formulated laws of universal gravitation and motion that explain how objects move on the Earth and in the sky. He made discoveries in optics and built the first reflecting telescope. He invented an area of mathematics called calculus and wrote a lot of books.

He was born in London, England; on 16 April 1889.He didn’t have a very happy childhood. His brother and he were in the workhouse. He started his career as an actor when he was nine. When he was 21, he joined a traveling music-hall company. Soon after he went to America and became the famous comic film star. People remember him as a funny little man in baggy trousers and a small bowler hat.
