- Good morning, students! I’m glad to see you. I’m sure everybody is all right. Take your seat, please.

- Today we are speak about some means of communication. They are traditionally called the Media. The Mass Media actually rule the world and play a very important part in our lives. (слайд 1)

-The mottos of our lesson are:

“Live and learn”, “So many men, so many minds”, “Obtain information – obtain the -world”. (слайд 2)

- And now tell me, please, what types of Mass Media do you know?

- Very well. Anybody also? Masha, can you add something?

-You’re absolutely right. Well done! Sit down, please.

- I see, my dear, you know the main media, but what are their definitions? Look at the screen, please. You should match the words and their definitions. Who want to start?

- Good job! Modern life is impossible without information. Is it true?

- We know about politics, crimes, cultural and educational events and we can hardly imagine our life without information. How do you get information?

- It’s right answer. It’s very well. Who can tell me what types of Mass Media do you use in your daily life?

- Yes, it is. We can’t imagine our life without information.

- We get information, watching TV, listening to the radio, reading books, newspapers or magazines, at school and, certainly, from Internet.

- I can say that I usually use TV, the Internet and newspapers.

-How about their popularity in modern life? What do you think about it?

-Well, you’ll agree with Lena that TV is definitely the most popular way of getting information. It attracts the attention of million of people every day, every evening.

TV is very important thing in our life. We can say that TV is our eyes because TV helps us to know more about the world, about the others counties, about the events that happened in the world. TV even helps you to know more about yourself. People watch TV for fun and entertainment. There are some educational and cultural TV programmes. We may watch quiz shows and talk shows. Some soap operas and sitcoms make us relaxed and help us escape from reality, routine.

However, I must say that watching TV takes all free time from almost all people. Millions people in the world spend hours watching TV every day. Many people become TV – addicted and it’s really a problem of our time. These people call “couch potato”. (слайд 9)

- Do you know what does it mean? How we can translate?

-You can see on the screen results of scientific research. Researchers in the USA have said that when most student leave school they have spent 11,000 hours in the classroom and 22,000 hours in front of the TV.

Russian researchers say that the average Russian teenager spends about 20hours a week in front of the TV. (слайд 10)

- But the fact is that “so many men, so many people”. How do you often watch TV? Who knows how much time do you spend in front of TV every day? Do you know, Nurdin?

- Not bad. And you …?

- To check up if you are “couch potato”, we’ll hold a TV quiz “Am I couch potato?” (Приложение 2). Look at the screen, please, there are 10 questions. You should answer on these questions with “yes” or “no”. Also you can see the worksheets on your desks, which you should fill in. (слайд 11)

Учащиеся высказывают предположения о том, кто это «couch potato».

P: I think I watch TV about one hour a day.

Учащиеся отвечают на вопросы викторины и выполняют мини-проект

Учащиеся подсчитывают свои очки и зачитывают результат вслух (You are/are not in love with your TV set).

• But what effect does TV has? It’s time to discuss the positive and negative sides of TV.

• Let’s divide into two groups and find benefits and dangers of the TV. The first group: your point of view is TV is the best invitation the man ever made. The second group: your point of view is TV is the worst invitation the man ever made. Try to give your arguments on each point of view.

• Great! Who can tell me what conclusion we come to?

• You’re absolutely right. TV has changed our lives in many ways. It has brought many positive things but also many negative things. And each person must make own choice how to use them.

-Now I’d like you watch the video about it, about Mass Media in our life. Look at the screen, please.

Учащиеся по очереди приводят примеры преимуществ и недос-татков телевидения.

Работа в группе строится по принципу взаимо-действия, взаимопомощи, задания выполняются сообща и с творческим подходом.

- So, we’ve learned that Mass Media. It helps us to learn more about the world around, to become more intelligent. So? I should say, that «obtain information, obtain the world».

At finally I’d like to thank you for you participation in our lesson, our discussion. Today you were very active and I hope that the theme of our lesson was interesting and useful for you. (слайд 15)
