Конспект урока «The USA» по английскому языку

Данное занятие предназначено для учащихся 9 классов. Участие в этой игре стимулирует развитие социокультурной компетенции учеников при подготовке к занятию и в ходе игры. Для участия в данном мероприятии ученикам необходимо знать факты истории, политики, культуру, географию США. В игре принимают участие 5 основных игроков и 5 болельщиков. После каждого тура участник, набравший наименьшее количество звезд, выходит из основной игры, но имеет право продолжать зарабатывать звезды, отвечая на вопросы.

Страноведение: интеллектуальная игра «The USA»

Цели и задачи:

1. Развивать творческие способности учащихся.

2. Развивать навыки устной речи, чтения, аудирования, письма.

3. Воспитывать культуру общения, толерантное отношение к стране изучаемого языка.

4. Прививать интерес к изучению иностранного языка.

Межпредметные связи: география, история, литература.

Оборудование занятия:

1. карта США

2. мультимедийный проектор, экран

3. бумажные звезды (награды за правильный ответ)

4. листы бумаги для письменных ответов участников

Игра начинается с «визитки» участников, которые должны рассказать о себе и выполнить заранее подготовленное творческое задание: кроссворд по теме “США”, стихотворение на английском языке, песня, инсценирование отрывков произведений и т.д.

Игра состоит из трех туров. Первый тур называется “Общая информация о стране” и включает в себя три задания: “География”, “Названия штатов”, “Американский английский”.

Второй тур “История” ставит целью проверить знания по истории США (“Даты”), развивает навыки аудирования при прослушивании текстов (“Праздники”), навыков устной речи .

Третий тур “По городам” предполагает развитие навыков устной речи и чтения при выполнении заданий “Города” и “Достопримечательности”

Блицтурнир развивает навыки аудирования, позволяет проконтролировать знания студентов, выявить победителя игры.

Ход занятия

1. Организационный момент

Good afternoon, everybody! We are here today to find out which of you knows the USA the best. You are to show us your knowledge in American History, Geography, Literature. Take you sits and be ready to win!

2. Основная часть

I тур

Task 1. “Geography”

You know some information about the USA. Look at the screen! You can see some geographical names. Write 6 sentences down using these geographical names. You have 2minutes. (слайд2)

Task 2 “Names of the states”

You know that the USA consists of 50 states. Each of them has several unofficial name or nickname. Look at the screen. You can see the names of 6 states of the USA. Answer the questions. (слайд3)

There are some well-known dates in the history of the USA. Do you know them? Look at the screen. You can see here some dates. Answer the questions. (слайд 5 )

There are a lot of holidays which are celebrated in the USA. You can see here 6 greeting cards. Listen to the small text and say what holiday is it about. (слайд 6)

6. Valentine’s Day

1. Americans celebrate this holiday on the fourth Thursday in November. This is family holiday. Americans make a big turkey dinner. (Thanksgiving Day)

2. It a religious holiday and one of the happiest holiday of the year. They decorate a tree with toys and lights. Santa Claus visit the children and bring presents. (Christmas)

3. It is a biggest national holiday in the USA. On this day was proclaimed the Declaration of Independence. (Independence Day)

4. This day is celebrated on February 14. It is a day of love and friendship. They send greeting cards and sweethearts. (Valentine’s Day)

5. Americans celebrate this holiday on the 31^st of October. The children wear masks and colorful costumes. The most popular costumes are ghosts, withes, and skeletons.

6. This holiday is celebrated on a Sunday in April or May. Before this holiday the people color eggs. (Easter)

Task 6 “Cities”

The USA is one of the largest country in the world. It has many small and big cities. You can see here the pictures of the cities of the USA. Read the text and say what city is the text about. (слайд 7 )

1. It is one of the biggest cities and ports in the west of the USA. Nearby lies the great Pacific Ocean. It is the Birthplace of the famous American novelist Jack London. This is the city of beauty, city of hills, a city of mind and water. (San Francisco)

2. The city is located n the southwestern shore of the lake Michigan. In is the second largest city in the USA and it is important as a great industrial center. Lake breezes and extremes of climate have given it the nicknames of “Windy city” (Chicago)

3. In 1791 George Washington chose the place for city. He thought it was a good place. It is jot typical American city. It has not a single skyscraper. It is the center of government industry. (Washington)

4. It is the biggest city in the USA. It is industrial and cultural center. American tourist companies call this city “the Wonder city of the would” but Maxim Gorky called it “the city of the yellow devil”. (New York)

5. It is the north east of the USA, on the Atlantic coast. It is the port and ship- building center. American call it “the city of yesterday and tomorrow”. It is historically famous for the Tea Party. (Boston)

6. It is situated in California. It is an important center of modern industries. Not far from it is Hollywood, the world – known center of the US film Business. (Los Angeles)

Task 7 “Sightseeing”

There are a lot of interesting places in the USA. Look at the screen, listen and say what sightseeing is about. (слайд 8 )

1. It was built in honor of Abraham Lincoln. Inside the memorial is a huge statue of the former president. (the Lincoln Memorial)

2. The largest and tallest building in Washington , where the Congress meets. It is a very beautiful building with white marble columns. (the Capitol)

3. The residence of the president is the oldest public structure in the capital and one of the most beautiful. (The White House)

4. This monument looks like a very big pencil. It rises 160 metres and it is empty inside. A special lift brings visitors to the top in 70 seconds, from where they can enjoy a view of the city. It was built in honor of the first president of the USA. (the Washington monument)

5. This monument was given to America by French people as a gift. It is in New-York. (The Statue of Liberty)
