A trip to Edinburgh.

1. Слайд 1. Звучит шотландская волынка, на экране сменяются виды Шотландии. (Приветствие, введение в тему, учитель читает эпиграф - куплет из неофициального гимна Шотландии), музыка стихает. Урок начинается с прочтения эпиграфа и вопросов об ассоциации музыки и страны и о теме разговора на уроке. Цель – вовлечь учащихся в речевую деятельность, пригласить к сотрудничеству).

Cliff Hanley

Teacher: Hello, students. Glad to see you. Have you heard the music? What country is it associated with? What do you think we are going to speak about at the lesson? Quite right. It is Scotland. You have heard the words from an unofficial hymn of Scotland written by Cliff Hanley. The poet feels high and proud speaking about his native land.

Today we are going on a virtual trip to one of the most beautiful and mysterious countries in the world. We shall remember its cities, famous people, traditions, holidays and what not. But what is the most interesting – for some time we shall turn into real tourists, we’ll have to ask people for information, decide what sights to visit, book rooms in a hotel and so on.

Before visiting a foreign country people collect some information about it. What things do you associate with Scotland? (Работа со всей группой, выстраивание ассоциативного ряда. Цель – выявление общих знаний о Шотландии, опора на уже имеющиеся знания детей о символах, знаменитых людях, исторических зданиях).

3. Слайд 2. На экране изображения предметов, которые ученики могут ассоциировать с Шотландией: килт, волынка, чертополох, флаг, Эдинбургский замок, памятник Вальтеру Скотту, портрет Роберта Бернса, ночной военный парад и др. Ученики называют ассоциации, по щелчку под картинками появляются надписи на английском. Проверяется правильность ответа.

4. Слайд 3. Виды Эдинбурга. (Учитель дает установку на новый вид деятельности – диалог).

Teacher: Thank you, it was great! Now tell me please what is the capital of Scotland? – Right you are, it’s Edinburgh and it’s the place of our destination. Don’t forget you are all tourists. Imagine that you have just got off the tourist bus and you are in front of some modern hotel. Your task is to book a room for two people. Have a look at your worksheets, make up short dialogues and dramatize them/

Worksheet 1. ( Работа в парах). Учащиеся получают рабочие листы с диалогами” At a hotel”, где реплики перемешаны. Задание – выстроить логически и выразительно рассказать диалог. Цель – учиться расспрашивать собеседника в заданной ситуации с целью получения необходимой информации.

At a Hotel

Treveller: Hello! I need a single room for three days.

Receptionist: Let me check whether we have any vacancies. We don't have any single rooms today, but there's a double room available.

Treveller:What is the daily rate for a double room?

Receptionist: It's ninety-eight dollars per night plus tax.

Treveller:Is breakfast included?

Receptionist:Yes, it is.

Treveller:Can I see the room?

Receptionist: Certainly. The bellboy will show you the room.

Treveller:All right, I'll take this room.

5. Слайд 4. Картинки буклетов и объявлений. (Установка на новый вид деятельности – групповая работа с последующими монологическими высказываниями. В группах учащиеся обсуждают какую экскурсию они бы выбрали и почему.

Teacher: Thanks. It was well done. You know in every hotel in a big city tourists get lots of different booklets and ads containing information about city sights, interesting places to visit, cafes, shops and the like. You’ll get some other worksheets. In groups you are to look through the information, discuss it and tell me what sights you want to visit and why.

Worksheet 2. (Работа в группах по 3-4 человека). Дети просматривают информацию в буклетах, выбирают места для посещения в соответствие со своими интересами и составляют монологические высказывания с опорой на речевые клише в рабочих листах.

6. Слайд 5. Ролик Military Tattoo.

Teacher: It was well done. Thank you. Speaking about Edinburgh’s sights and interesting events you’ve mentioned Military Tattoo. What is it?

P: It is a military parade (show) that takes place at Edinburgh Castle.

Teacher: Quite right. Now I suggest you watching a short video representing this event. And then you’ll hear a text about it. ( Дети просматривают видео, которое готовит их к выполнению следующего задания – аудированию. Цель - погружение учащихся в культуроведческую языковую среду, помочь визуалам лучше воспринять ситуацию).

Teacher: How do you find it? Was it interesting? Unusual?

7. Слайд 6. Картинка Military Tattoo.

Teacher: Now have a look at your Worksheets 3 and read the sentences 1 -7. After listening you are to decide if they are TRUE, FALSE or the information was not mentioned.

Слайд 7. Текст Military Tattoo. (Аудирование).

Worksheet 3. ( Учащиеся просматривают текст, готовятся к прослушиванию. Учитель читает текст один раз. Затем следует проверка правильности выполнения задания. Задание дублируется на слайде, по щелчку появляются правильные ответы. Цель – аудирование с целью извлечения конкретной информации.

The Edinburgh Military Tattoo

The Edinburgh Military Tattoo is a show given by military bands in the Scottish capital Edinburgh. The event takes place every year, at the same time as Edinburgh Festival. The Tattoo began in 1950 with just 8 items in the programme. Every year about 200 000 people gather at Edinburgh Castle to watch the famous Military Tattoo.

Now about 1000 participants present their artistry at Edinburgh Castle. Millions of people worldwide watch the show on television. And there are those who come to view the event close and personal from different corners of the globe.

The Edinburgh Military Tattoo takes place every August and September. For 90 minutes on five or six nights a week, 600 people perform in the square in front of the Castle. The performers play military music and march to it.

International military bands and even African tribes have performed at the Tattoo over the tears. The first performer from outside the UK to take part was the band of the Royal Netherlands Grenadiers in 1952. So far, over 30 countries have been represented at the Tattoo. Although there are many different displays, the most spectacular sight is the massed pipes and drums, performed by the bands of the British Army.

Teacher: You worked well. And now get ready for the last task, it’s a game “Guess the sight”. Look at the screen. You can see a lot of sights of Edinburgh. I hope you know all of them.

You’ll be divided into two teams; each of you will get a picture of some sight. It may represent a place, a monument or an event. On the blackboard there are some captures. Each of you will have to stick your picture under a corresponding capture. The members of each team will check up the results of their opponents. The winner is the team that will be the first and do everything correctly.

Учащиеся делятся на две команды, получают два набора картинок с видами Эдинбурга и по команде разбирают листки. На левом и правом крыле доски надписи видов Эдинбурга, под каждым из которых учащиеся должны прикрепить соответствующую картинку. Команды работают у доски, музыкальное сопровождение - Шотландская волынка. По окончании учащиеся занимаются взаимопроверкой, участвуют в оценивании правильности выполнения задания.
