Los Angeles

officially the City of Los Angeles, often known by its initials L.A., is the most populous city in the U.S. state of California and the second-most populous in the United States, after New York City

Los Angeles was founded on September 4, 1781, by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve. Nicknamed the City of Angels, Angeltown","Lalaland", "Tinseltown“.

Los Angeles is a global city, with strengths in business, international trade, entertainment, culture, media, fashion, science, sports, technology, education, medicine and research and has been ranked sixth in the Global Cities Index and 9th Global Economic Power Index.

Los Angeles includes Hollywood and leads the world in the creation of television productions, video games, and recorded music; it is also one of the leaders in motion picture production.

Hollywood

is a famous district in in the central region of Los Angeles,California. It is prominent for its place as the home of the entertainment industry, including several of its historic studios. Its name has come to represent the motion picture industry of the United States.

Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Walk of Fame comprises more than 2,500 five-pointed terrazzo and brass stars embedded in the sidewalks along 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street in Hollywood, California. The stars are permanent public monuments to achievement in the entertainment industry, bearing the names of a mix of actors, musicians, directors, producers, musical and theatrical groups, fictional characters, and others. The Walk of Fame is administered by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and maintained by the self-financing Hollywood Historic Trust. It is a popular tourist destination, with a reported 10 million visitors in 2003.

Downtown Los Angeles

Downtown Los Angeles is the central business district of Los Angeles, California, as well as a diverse residential neighborhood of some 50,000 people. During the day an influx of workers swells the population to more than 200,000.

A heritage of the city's founding in 1789, Downtown today is composed of different areas ranging from a fashion district to a skid row, and it is the hub of the city's Metro rapid transit system. Banks, department stores and movie palaces at one time drew residents and visitors into the area, but the district declined economically and suffered a downturn for decades until its recent renaissance starting in the early 2000s: Old buildings are being modified for new uses, and skyscrapers have been built. Downtown is known for its government buildings, parks, theaters and other public places.

The David Guetta/Flo Rida/Nicki Minaj song, "Where Them Girls At" takes place at various places around Downtown Los Angeles.

Settings in Madonna's music video for her song, "La Isla Bonita", were clearly filmed around Downtown Los Angeles. The Los Angeles band Red Hot Chili Peppers have referenced the city in their songs many times over the years, most notably in their 1992 hit single "Under the Bridge", which contains lyrics about the singers' relationship with the city.
