(Slide # 7)

  1. The inner significance of Value Peace.

T: What is Peace?

P1: Love in feelings is Peace.

P2: Peace is the state in which the senses have been mastered and held in check, the ego is neutralized and desires are felt no more.

P3: It is the elevation of experiences derived from emotional equilibrium, contentment, humility, and optimism.

P4: It is equanimity - a stable mental state, always calm, like ”the eye of the storm”.

P5: Peace means mind control – sense control, being the same in both ”ups and downs”.

P6: Peace is inner harmony.

T: Well done, dear children. To practice Peace we need to develop in ourselves practical aspects of Peace. What are they? Guess, please and write down in your Information Papers.

(Slide # 10)

T: Repeat after me: offer, try, mirror, overhead, fluffy, rugged, above, lightning, tumble, foam, waterfall, crack, in the midst of, explain.

(Slide # 11)

T: Translate the following word combinations from Russian into English:

(Slide # 12)

T: Let’s read our story “Real Peace”. (students read the story one by one)

Story. Real Peace

There once was a King who offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace. Many artists tried. The King looked at all the pictures, but there were only two he really liked and he had to choose between them.

One picture was a calm lake. The lake was a perfect mirror for the peaceful towering mountains that were all around it. Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. All who saw this picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace.

The other picture had mountains too. But these were rugged and bare. Above was an angry sky from which rain fell, and in which lightning played. Down the side of the mountain tumbled a foaming waterfall. This did not look peaceful at all. But when the King looked, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In the bush a mother bird had built her nest. There in the midst of the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest … . Perfect Peace.

Which picture do you think won the prize? The King chose the second picture.

Do you know why?

Because”, explained the King, “Peace doesn’t mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace.”

(Slide # 13)

T: Now, let’s discuss the story. Look at two pictures and find what is wrong. Give the right description from the story. Picture # 1.

P1: In Picture # 1 there are no towering mountains all around the lake.

P2: In Picture # 1 there is no blue sky with fluffy white clouds.

P3: We can’t say that it is a perfect picture of peace.

(Slide # 14)

T: What about Picture # 2?

P1: In Picture # 2 there is no rain falling from the sky.

P2: In Picture # 2 there is no lightning playing in the sky.

P3: A tiny bush is not behind the waterfall. It isn’t growing in a crack in the rock.

T: And what about mother bird?

P1: She isn’t sitting in the midst of the rush of angry water, but still very peaceful.

(Slide # 15)

T: Now, please, work in pairs again. Answer the questions:

Pair 1 (Gadji – Magomed): 1. Why do you think the King needed a picture of peace?

The King needed a picture of peace because he wanted to know how people in his kingdom understand the meaning of Peace. He also wanted to learn more about Peace to become more peaceful.

Pair 2 (Amina – Shaun): 2. Can Nature give us peace? What kind of peace is it?

Yes, it can. We can enjoy the beauty of peaceful mountains, lakes, trees, etc. and get calmness from them. This peace comes from God as the Creator of everything. Nature is the dress of God.

Pair 3 (Abakar – Mukhtar): 3. When do you usually have peace in your heart?

I have peace in my heart when I sit alone in my room (this was the usual answer)/ do silent sitting/ guided visualization/ have walks in a countryside.

Pair 4 (Zukhra – Asya – Khalima): 4. What is the real meaning of peace?

(Slide # 16)

Peace doesn’t mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace.”

Pair 5 (Rukiyat – Ayshat): 5. How can we attain Real Peace?

We can attain Real Peace if we follow the practical aspects of Value Peace. …………..

  1. Means to attain Real Peace.

(Slide # 17)

T: Let’s take up the last question and look deeper into it. What should we do to attain Real Peace. What practices do we need?

  1. Guided visualization on Universal Light.

(Slide # 18)

T: Now, let’s come from theory to practice. At the beginning of our lesson we’ve already done silent sitting. Let’s recall the steps of Guided visualization on Universal Light.

T: Let’s relax now and do Guided visualization on Universal Light. We invite our guests to do this practice with us.

(Slide # 19) – video clip

Guided Visualization on Universal Light

Imagine that there is a light in front of you. Using your imagination bring this light to your forehead and into the head. Let the head be filled with light. Then think: “Wherever there is light darkness cannot be present. I will only think good and useful thoughts.”

Expand the light to the heart and imagine that there is a flower bud there. When the light reaches the flower bud see it opening into a beautiful flower. Feel it opening. See it is full of Love, Peace and Joy.

Let the light expand down the two arms, to the hands. Let the hands be filled with light. Think: “Let me do only good, kind and helpful things.”

Now the light expands through the body and down the legs, to the feet. Think: “May my feet take me to places where I’ll be safe and in good company.”

Be aware of the light in the head and in the mouth and tongue. Think: “May I always speak the truth and only what is kind and only what is useful and necessary.”

Slowly expand the light to the ears. Let the ears be filled with light and think: “Let me only hear good things.”

Expand the light to the eyes and let your two eyes be filled with light. Think: “Let me see good in all things. May I see beauty and harmony in all things around me.”

Be aware of the light in the head. Imagine that Light and Love is radiating from the top of your head to surround your mother and father or whoever looks after you. They are now full of light. Think: “May my mother and father be filled with peace.”

Now expand the light to your teachers and send it out to your relatives and friends, to the people you like, to someone you may have a problem with.

Let it expand out to all the people in the world, to all beings: people, animals, birds, fish, to all trees and plants everywhere. To the rocks and to the planet itself. Think:”May the world be filled with Light, may the world be filled with Love, Peace and Happiness”.

Then let the light expand to every corner of the universe. Think: “I am in the Light, the Light is in me, I am the Light.”

Now allow the light to flow back down through the top of your head, back down into your heart. This light will stay with you all day. Let this light radiate out from your heart to fill with your entire being.

Let it radiate out from you to everyone you meet throughout the day. Now bring your attention gently back to the room, open your eyes and stretch and smile at the person next to you.

May all beings in the world be happy!

(Slides # 20-21)

(Slide # 23)

  1. Sum up. Homework.

T: Our lesson is over. You’ve done great work! I give all of you “fives”. Write down your home task, please: to retell the story “Real Peace”, p. 7

Good-bye and good luck!

(Slide # 24)

  1. Video-clip “St. Francis’ Prayer” + Group singing.

If there is some more time left, this video-clip can be shown and students can sing this song together with the students from Dragon School (Oxford, UK):

Song № 18 (SB 2). St. Francis’ Prayer

Make me a channel of your peace

Where there is hatred let me bring your Love

Where there is injury your pardon Lord

And where there’s doubt true faith in you.

Refrain:

O master grant that I may never seek

So much to be consoled as to console

To be understood as to understand

To be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace

Where there’s despair in life let me bring hope

Where there is darkness only light

And where there’s sadness ever joy.

Refrain.

Make me a channel of your peace

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned

In giving to all men that we receive

And in dying that we’re born to eternal life.
